Our adoption donation is $250.00.

We have been asked why we ask for a donation charge.

Rescue groups typically charge between $100 and $300 for adoption fees/donations. This money is used to pay veterinary bills (vaccination, spay/neutering, unexpected illnesses, injured dogs), food, transportation, flea/tick treatments, bedding, collars, leashes, bowls, and fees to pull dogs from a shelter.

We have willingly contributed our personal funds to help these dogs, but it has not been enough to defray the on going costs to rescue these dogs.

Below are listed some of the specific costs that MO-KAN Border Collie rescue has encountered:

  • Shelter adoption fees with medical expenses range from $115 to $185 on average. This generally covers shelter fees, vaccinations, spay/neuter, heart worm testing, and hip x-ray exams.
  • If a dog is relinquished, the medical costs range between $100 - $200 depending on what needs to be done.
  • Heartworm positive dogs will cost us around $250.
  • We had a dog last year that cost us upwards of $1000 because of medical problems that were difficult to diagnose and treat.
