Fiona is all about being a border collie, & this little girl just wants to have FUN! At 10 months old, she sure loves to play. She will play with toys, loves to chew on bones & chew toys, but chasing a fluffy toy on a rope or wrestling with other dogs is her favorite. She’s good in the car and on walks. She is a busy dog that wants to always be right in the middle of everything, but she is also a wiggly, snuggly girl who will charm her way into extra cuddles and sleeping right up against you at night. She is fascinated by cats, but gets along with them very well, backing away immediately if they start to tense up. She absolutely loves to play with other dogs and manages to convince nearly everyone to play with her, but she’s usually responsive to their signals when they don’t want to play anymore. She is very friendly and happy to greet men, women and children alike.
Fiona is a high energy border collie and will need a job or high level of exercise and mental stimulation. She is extremely clever, an independent thinker, and a problem solver who will come up with her own entertainment if left to her own devices, but she does want to please and would love to work with a partner. She will work for treats, but they don’t always trump an exciting environment. She doesn’t quite understand the game of fetch and retrieve yet & currently has little to no interest in playing ball or frisbee, but she will do almost anything to chase a fluffy teaser-style toy. She is very fast and has great balance for making tight responsive turns too.
Although still a puppy, she is fully grown and weighs in at 28 pounds and is about 17-18” at the shoulder. Fiona knows sit, down, has a fair recall, and is learning to "wait". Because she has strong herding instincts she will do best in a home without small children as she will get excited and nip at any fast moving ankles. Her strong herding instinct also makes her highly sensitive to light, noise and motion, but a savvy border collie owner will be able to help avoid letting her fixate.
She is a bundle of joy and energy packed into a small, adorable package that causes everyone who meets her to fall in love. Are you ready to be charmed?
This boy has got it all! Not only is he adorable and loves to play but he's also a quick learner and a snuggle bug who has never met a stranger. He eagerly greets everyone he mets and then flips over for a belly rub.
Trace is a 5 month old smooth coat and current on all of his vaccinations. He is crate trained and getting close to being house trained as well. He plays really well with his foster brother and sisters but is a little over the top in his fascination with cats so would probably do best in a home without cats. He would enjoy having other dogs around to play with but could probably also be happy as an only dog.
Trace is both toy and treat motivated and has already learned to play fetch and tug. With his combination of being active, eager to please and food and treat motivated, he would probably do well as a performance dog but would also be OK in a pet home as long as he was kept active mentaly and physically.
Trace needs a fenced yard to keep him safe. He is being fostered in the Springfield, MO area.
Reaghan is a three year old Border Collie mix who joins us again after her original adoptive home was no longer able to provide an appropriate environment for her. But their loss is your gain because Reaghan is a wonderfully adorable little love bug who is a joy to have around.
Reaghan enjoys being around other dogs once she has warmed up to them and especially loves chasing them around the yard. She is interested in cats but has learned not to bark at or chase them, but will follow them around at times and just watch them. She also enjoys watching our rabbit but has not tried to hurt her. Reaghan plays with toys by herself but has not yet engaged in fetch or tug with us. She also has enjoyed chewing a nylabone from time to time.
Reaghan is crate trained and housebroken, knows sit, down, shake, speak, circle and typically comes when called. She is used to being groomed and rides well in the car. She has been through an obedience class with her previous owners. Reaghan is not a high drive dog and is content to hang out around the house, but she does have energy and a playful spirit. She is eager to please and food motivated and I think could easily be trained for sports like obedience, rally, Nosework or barn hunt. She is also quite athletic and not afraid to jump or climb and could be a nice agility dog for someone who just wants to enjoy the sport with a dog who is not too over the top and would also be a good pet. Reaghan also has potential as a therapy dog or as a great family-she is an A+ snuggler and will let you rub her belly all day long! She would probably also enjoy long walks and possibly jogging.
However, Reaghan was returned to us about 10 lbs overweight so she is working hard on her diet. It will be important for her new home to continue her weight loss program especially before pursuing and high impact activities such as agility or jogging. Her ideal weight is approximately 25 lbs.
Don’t miss out on your chance to have this wonderful girl join your family!
Kate is a beautiful Pyrenees/border collie mix, about a year old. She has the traits of both breeds. She has a gorgeous white and black coat that is thick and so soft!
She is very much a puppy and this girl has energy! She LOVES to chase the tennis ball, and will bring it back for you to throw again and again. She walks on a leash with a gentle leader. Kate will flourish in an active home and would be a wonderful running, or hiking partner (she currently wears a backpack with light weights during her daily walk). She LOVES to play with her toys and will bring them to you to throw and play with her. She will play with her toys by herself, throwing them in the air and pouncing on them. She is not destructive to any of her toys, loves them all.
Kate would be very happy as an only dog or possibly with the right male. She can be pushy with her play and does not always take correction well from another dog when they've had enough. She can be a bit of a toy hog and does not like to share if challenged. Because of er exuberance for life and her height, she would be best with children over 12 as she could unintentionally knock down little ones.
Kate is sweet, loves pets, hugs and belly rubs. Once she's had enough exercise, she is content to lie down and hang out with her person. She knows Sit, Shake, Down, Watch, and is learning Stay and Wait. She needs a confident, experienced leader who will continue to teach her that she must listen and that nothing in life is free. Her family must be committed to ongoing training. Kate is a smart girl and will work to get what she wants : ) She shows some of the Pyrenees independence, but is very treat motivated and loves training times. She will bark at strangers (Pyrenees trait) but warms up quickly once she gets to know people. Especially if you have ball to throw for her or a treat!
1/6/16 Update on Kate
Kate has been in foster just over a month, and has this girl changed!!
With clear leadership from her foster mom, she is learning improved behaviors in the house. She is chill in the house where she is content to lay and watch the activities of what is happening.
She loves her walks and training sessions. She sits or stands quietly for her backpack and gentle leader to be placed for her walks, and is much better on leash. She knows sit, look, down, stay, come, shake, kennel, and waits at the doors to come in or go out. She shows patience and controlled eagerness with her training sessions, and loves to learn!
Now that she is secure and feels comfortable here, she comes to us for pets, hugs and sometimes a rare kiss.
She plays nicely with my younger border collie female. They have games of chase or tug with Kate usually able to initiate the play. When my dog has had enough she will usually back off, but if not, she will “leave it” with firm direction from her foster mom. She LOVES the tennis ball and will “look” for her toys when told and bring them to you for play.
She continues to meet new people, with proper introduction she does well with everyone.
With continued good leadership and training. The sky is the limit with this girl of what she can do!
Kate will need a fence to keep her safe.
Ava is a 3-4 month old female Border Collie who was found as a stray on the side of the road. A kind veterinarian picked her up, treated her for parasites and contacted MOKAN to find her a good home!
Ava has only been with us about a week but she is a wonderful puppy. She is a smart, happy girl who loves a good snuggle and to give kisses. She also enjoys all toys and is very food motivated. She would like to play with other dogs if they are interested. She watches the cats and horses but doesn't really bother them.
She sleeps through the night, is doing very well on crate and housetraining and was very well behaved in her kennel at the agility trial and at a busy vet clinic. She also really enjoyed watching the other dogs doing agility.
She is very agile and likes to climb and explore and quickly learned how to navigate bleachers and jump on the couch. She is also very good at using her nose and finds all kinds of things she would like to eat-although some she really shouldn't!
Overall she is a medium energy border collie (so far). She likes to play and sometimes gets pretty wild but will also play quietly by herself and hang out in the yard looking at stuff and watching other animals. She should be a great active pet or possible sports dog and also has therapy dog potential once she learns some manners!
Ava will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract.
Meet Allie. This little beauty is currently in foster care while she looks for the perfect new home. Gentle and sweet... she gets along with other dogs and loves her people. She appreciates the simple things- like a tennis ball, a pat on the head, or snuggling up to watch TV.
She is between 1 and 2 years old. Her vision and hearing is just fine despite the over abundance of white. She has medium energy, an eagerness to learn, a good "off switch" and would love to end up in an active home. She is crate trained and has lots of good manners-like walking on leash and waiting for the 'ok' to go through a doorway.
To prevent her from ever being lost again, a secure fence of medium height is required.
Allie is being fostered in the St. Louis area.
Heidi is a 5 year old female border collie who loves people, playing ball and going for walks. She was found in the country by a woman and her husband and they contacted MoKan to help. We think she was somewhat isolated prior to rescue. Heidi has gained lots of exposure to new experiences and the sounds of the suburbs/city since she came into foster care.
Heidi does really well in the car and would be fine in a home with no other dogs. She is ok around other dogs, but isn’t interested in them and is perfectly happy if they ignore her. As a result, her foster mom thinks Heidi prefers to be an only dog in the house. Being a little low key she likes her quiet time, in a quiet part of the house – but if you say “play ball” she is all in! Heidi does pretty good with recall but might need you to come get her at times. She is the sweetest girl and loves to be with you. Sirens can send her to her quiet place in the house until she feels it’s safe to come out. Heidi needs a fenced yard to keep her safe.
We are still working on calm greetings when people come to the house. She is excited when company comes over but usually a down or off command will settle her down. Heidi thinks everyone is her friend so they must be there to see her! She really likes everyone she encounters. When we go on walks she is so cute people just want to give her attention and she loves it! Heidi is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She takes fluoxetine daily to help relieve anxiety.
Heidi is being fostered in the KC area.
Meet JAXON (aka JAX). Jax is a very handsome 1.5 year old male Border Collie / Australian Shephard mix who loves family life, high energy activities and the companionship of other dogs. Jax had a rough start in life before he was rescued from an Oklahoma cattle ranch by his Kansas City foster family in August 2016. In a short period of time, JAX has easily adapted to his current foster home environment which includes his foster sister who’s also a herding dog. She’s shown him the ropes of becoming a real dog and of all the exciting things to do indoors and out. They love to play together.
JAX loves going for walks and runs, playing with other dogs and riding in the car/truck. He is a snuggler who wants to be close to his people. He’s extremely smart and has learned many new skills with ease, such as sit, down, come, stay and go to your kennel/bed and is working on more advance training with his foster Mom.
Jax is fun-loving and affectionate. He still has a lot of “puppy” behavior which the foster family believes is a result of having little to no attention by his previous owners prior to his rescue. He is learning to play ball and Frisbee and will be a pro in no time. JAX has been started on ‘competitive agility training’ by his foster Mom (who currently has a herding dog that competes under NADAC). JAX demonstrates the right skill set as a competitive agility show dog with no fear of obstacles, and demonstrates enjoyment in the daily routine of practice time and ‘challenge learnings.”
His foster family believes JAX should be in a home environment with another dog of similar temperament. JAX sweet nature and ‘desire to be involved and busy’ is best suited for a family that includes their dogs in lifestyle activities. JAX has a lot of energy which requires daily exercise. JAX needs to be with a family that understands the breed and the need for mental stimulation and well as physical activities. Jax enjoys ‘rough house playing’ with other dogs. He gets a little too excited during play time which the foster family views as being a “puppy behavior” which he may grow out of as he matures. He will need to be matched with another young active dog, which enjoys this type of play style.
While JAX is kennel trained, we are looking for a home where he will not be in a day-long kenneling situation. He is completely house broken and can be trusted to stay indoors during the day with no issue when left alone. JAX ideal family needs to have a large fenced yard. He will sleep in his dog bed on the floor at night, but prefers the security of sleeping with his people in their bed at night.
Jax is a high energy dog that will excel in the right family, whether it is a sports home, hiking or other active lifestyle. Do you have what it takes to give Jax the life he deserves?
This sweet 1-year old girl is a 35-pound bundle of energy.Charlie loves to play ball, wrestle and chase other dogs, and especially play Frisbee.Charlie is very curious and loves to explore and find new and interesting games, she’s not scared of anything. She loves meeting other people and dogs and even loves kids. When no one is able to play with her she will throw her balls and Frisbee or hide them for herself. She just loves to play!At the end of a busy day she loves to curl up with you to take a nap.She really likes to curl up next to you in the morning before breakfast.
Charlie is still very much a puppy, she is very goofy and can be clumsy. She is crate trained and mostly house broken, consistent practice is improving that behavior.Charlie can be obsessive with smaller animals, she may do better with no cats or small dogs. She would definitely need a high energy dog mate or a very tolerant dog.Charlie would also be fine as the only dog.Charlie does have an issue with jumping up on people which isn’t helped that everyone loves her so much. She makes friends wherever she goes. As with housetraining, consistent practice and Charlie will be a model citizen and no longer jump.Because she is still so young Charlie has not yet learned that there are calm times but will lie down in her crate.
Charlie excels at Frisbee, she will jump in the air and twist and turn to catch it.She would be excellent at Frisbee or flyball.Charlie would also do great with agility, anything to keep her busy mind active. She will need a home that provides lots of exercise and mental stimulation. When bored Charlie may start bad habits like chewing.Charlie would also be an excellent running companion, her long legs let her run miles and never slow down or get tired.Charlie is looking for an active family that will give her lots of attention and stimulation and she will give them lots of affection and love while creating many great memories.
Charlie needs a fenced yard to keep her safe.
If you are looking for a love bug, Tehani is the girl for you! This sweet 8-10 month old female smooth coat was found as a stray in rural MO. She loves everyone and is good with men, women, children, dogs and cats.
Although she still does puppy stuff like get into the trash or carry off slippers she has easily adapted to life in the house. She is very smart and catches onto routines quickly. She is crate-trained, sleeps quietly all night long, and is mostly housebroken. She also rides well in a car and tolerates all body handling. She loves a good snuggle and belly rub!
Tehani also likes treats and toys. She is starting to learn to play with other dogs and to tug. She is of medium energy level for a border collie. She is very agile and athletic, not afraid to jump, climb or explore. She would be a great family pet, therapy dog or potential sports prospect.
Tehani needs work on leash training and general confidence but is a quick study and should be an amazing addition to any family. Tehani currently weighs 32 pounds and will not likely get significantly larger.
