Hi Everyone! I’m Toby! At least that’s what my foster mom is calling me now. I had a really weird name at first from the shelter – Moses - but I kept thinking when they called me that they were telling me “no” so I was starting to think I shouldn’t ‘do’ anything at all because I was afraid I was in trouble. I like my new name – at least I know now that I’m not in trouble. My foster mom says I’m a great dog – I’m a little over a year old and she says she’s really lucky because I’m her first foster and I already know a LOT of things and I was so PROUD to be able to show her what I know! I sit by the door and tap on it when I want to go outside, I can sit when asked, I know down and I can walk on a leash (when there’s not a lot of distractions, my foster mom says she’s working on this with me so I can learn to be calmer but honestly the world is so exciting!). I also showed her that when she’s eating her dinner that I can quietly lie down and NOT beg! AND, I showed her that I can get in my crate without arguing (even the one in that thing called a car) and that I sleep all night without making a peep when everyone goes to bed.
My foster mom says I’m a big boy (I weigh 45 lbs) but she says she doesn’t think I’ll grow much more – but I might put on another pound or two. (Don’t tell her but I’m still smaller than my foster brothers even though at first when she met me she thought I was bigger than them – that’s because I have a lot of hair but not as much as THEY do – lol).
In the first couple of weeks that I’ve been at my foster mom’s, I’ve done so many NEW things... I got to run in a big yard AND no one yelled at me – it was SOOOOO much fun. I went to this place called an agility trial and I met LOTS of people and other dogs and children and my foster mom said I was a WONDERFUL boy because I “offered all the right behaviors” (whatever THAT means – I just know that it’s so much fun to take it all in- who would want to start a fight – there’s so much going on!!!!)
Last week I got to meet these things called ‘cats’. Ohhhhh that was interesting, one of them actually stalked ME! I watched out of the corner of my eye because I didn’t want it to hit me with those claws (besides it was growling and all fluffed up) and I decided that my best approach to that thing called a ‘cat’ was to just ignore it.
My favorite things to do now are to play this game she calls ‘recall’ and to chase and play with my foster brothers. We get to go outside in the BIG yard and we run and run and run and then she say’s ‘puppies come’ and we all come running back to her for COOKIES... OMG!!! And now I’m learning that “Toby Come” means the same thing!!!! Sometimes, it’s still hard for me to stop what I’m doing and come back to her but boy oh boy those cookies are pretty tempting!
Anyway, I’m looking for my forever home – I have lots of love to give and I know there’s someone special out there that is going to love ME as much as I can love THEM. I will need a fenced yard to keep me safe. I am being fostered in the Springfield, MO area.
