If you love Border Collies, and have prior Border Collie experience, this handsome young male may be for you! Saint is a one year old petite purebred Border Collie who exhibits many traits of this herding breed. He is active, smart, wants to please, has a herding instinct, and watches everything with intensity. His training will be an ongoing process since he is an adolescent and is naturally trying to find his place in the world. So far, he is house trained, leash trained, kennel trained, rides great in a vehicle--loves to travel, and knows a variety of words and commands.

He is well on his way to being a spectacular household member. With the right person, he could enjoy agility training and/or obedience for competition. He would enjoy hiking, running, walking, as long as he can spend time with his people.

Saint was a “COVID puppy”. Loved, basic trained, and raised with a toddler, but without full access to more advanced training and socialization. He was surrendered when training needs became apparent and they wanted him to be the best and happiest version of himself.

Like many Border Collies, Saint is cautious (not fearful or skittish) around strangers. Introductions are best with a tossed treat and the opportunity for him to touch a still, open-palm hand at your side. He took only 12 hours to go from cautious to cuddly and goofy during a week-long field trip to his non-primary foster home. He may take a bit longer to bond with more than one person. Saint will bark for a moment when strangers approach the fence and people who come in the house. He needs a Border-Collie savvy and training-experienced home that will continue to build a calm and trusting outlook on new people he greets.

Saint does well at the dog park and prefers to hang out with his person, run a lap, watch and occasionally give a playful nip to other dogs. He freely approaches people for a quick near-touch when off leash. In his primary foster home, Saint is respectful to resident dogs and playful with the young one. He is polite when visiting other dogs’ houses but can be selective with some dogs in his home. Saint is not good with cats.

Saint is being fostered in the Sedalia, MO area.
