Laverne & Shirley...Their story through my eyes.....

They are Border Collie Mix. They were was born August of 2018. They were spayed and heartworm tested (August 2021), test was negative. Their vaccines were given March of 2023. They are due for shots but their Rabies are good through 2026. (We are a small town pound and do not do vetting here)

They came to us from a rescue that shut down in our county. We received an email from KDA and thought, we have gotten so much help from so many, why not try to help save a couple of sweet girls. They have been with us since July 14, 2024. They are housed in outdoor kennels, covered by tarp and houses stuffed with straw.

Personalities are a lot alike, they are both very gentle, vocal at times (Shirley more so), easy on a leash. They were put into a kennel at their previous rescue and had no yard time and not worked with much. With that being said, while being here, I have tried teaching them to sit and not to jump up on people. They don't get a lot of interaction with people, because this is a City Pound, but oddly enough are fantastic dogs. They are housed in separate kennels, but are right next to each other. Other dogs have came through the kennels and at first they will bark, but then could care less. I've not seen how they behave around cats. I have taken my own grandchildren around them and they don't seem to mind them either. (ages 5 & 11) As far as activities, they get out for a walk and some human interaction once a day. They have bones and toys in the kennel. My city is working on making our yard gate, unpassable, so they can possibly get out and run, stretch their legs more. A kennel and leash is no life for a dog, especially ones that are as sweet as these.

I'm looking for a rescue or foster for these two because we are a City Pound and we can not house for long periods of time. They have been here since July, which is far beyond our allowed stay time. The rescue that had them before said they were a "bonded pair". Keeping them together may be impossible, but if they go separate ways, at least they have been given the chance and found a permanent home.

Medically, they seem fine, I'm no vet. I will say that Laverne seems to be having an issue with her eyes, some discharge. I clean her up and keep them as clear as I can. It does not seem to bother her, annoying I would guess. They do get wormed here, we use NEMEX-2.

Overall, these two ladies are sweet, loving and longing for a "furever" home. They deserve more than what they have now. They are in this situation to no fault of their own, but are longing for the home that is full of love for the rest of their lives, and deserve just that!
