Riot is 8-9 month old male. Riot was picked up by animal control after being tossed from a moving vehicle. He was limping at the time which was assumed to be as a result of this incident. But a trip to the vet indicated this was an old fracture to his femur that had gone untreated. When his owner was located he verified that the puppy had been run over at a young age and not treated. He was then surrendered to animal control and transferred to rescue. Consultation with an orthopedic specialist who determined there was no option that would make Riot’s leg normal, useful and pain free. Amputation was scheduled for the following week. But, before his surgery, Riot came down with parvo and spent more than a week as a very ill little guy. After he recovered we allowed a few weeks to build up his strength and the amputation was performed. Because Riot had not really been using his leg for several months he made the adjustment to 3 legs very easily and within just a few days was running as fast as ever, using stairs, and doing pretty much anything a four legged dog does! Riot is crate trained and appears mostly housebroken. He learned to be very good at baths while he was ill. He loves all toys and will play happily by himself. He has not yet gotten the hang of fetch. He can get pretty wound up at times but is usually pretty good in the house. He’s a very sweet boy who loves to cuddle when he’s not playing with toys. He likes other dogs and has been playing some with his foster brother Havoc and occasionally with the older dogs in the house. Although he enjoys other dogs he would be fine as an only dog and also does not bother other dogs excessively who do not want to play. He is very interested in cats. He likes to follow and watch them but will not hurt them. He will chase them if they run and would do best with dog savvy cats. Riot is a wonderful boy, he has such a good spirit, is curious, playful, smart, loving and would make a wonderful addition to any family. I expect him to fill out to about 40 lb fully grown. Riot will be available after March 15. Riot needs an above ground fence to keep him safe. Riot is being fostered in Springfield, MO More information on Riot and other great dogs, including adoption information and application, is available at www.mokanbcrescue.org |
