Kate is a beautiful Pyrenees/border collie mix, about a year old. She has the traits of both breeds. She has a gorgeous white and black coat that is thick and so soft! She is very much a puppy and this girl has energy! She LOVES to chase the tennis ball, and will bring it back for you to throw again and again. She walks on a leash with a gentle leader. Kate will flourish in an active home and would be a wonderful running, or hiking partner (she currently wears a backpack with light weights during her daily walk). She LOVES to play with her toys and will bring them to you to throw and play with her. She will play with her toys by herself, throwing them in the air and pouncing on them. She is not destructive to any of her toys, loves them all. Kate would be very happy as an only dog or possibly with the right male. She can be pushy with her play and does not always take correction well from another dog when they've had enough. She can be a bit of a toy hog and does not like to share if challenged. Because of her exuberance for life and her height, she would be best with children over 12 as she could unintentionally knock down little ones. Kate is sweet, loves pets, hugs and belly rubs. Once she's had enough exercise, she is content to lie down and hang out with her person. She knows Sit, Shake, Down, Watch, and is learning Stay and Wait. She needs a confident, experienced leader who will continue to teach her that she must listen and that nothing in life is free. Her family must be committed to ongoing training. Kate is a smart girl and will work to get what she wants : ) She shows some of the Pyrenees independence, but is very treat motivated and loves training times. She will bark at strangers (Pyrenees trait) but warms up quickly once she gets to know people. Especially if you have ball to throw for her or a treat! Kate will need a fence to keep her safe. She is fully vetted, current on heart worm, and microchipped. 1/6/16 Update on Kate Kate has been in foster just over a month, and has this girl changed!! With clear leadership from her foster mom, she is learning improved behaviors in the house. She is chill in the house where she is content to lay and watch the activities of what is happening. She loves her walks and training sessions. She sits or stands quietly for her backpack and gentle leader to be placed for her walks, and is much better on leash. She knows sit, look, down, stay, come, shake, kennel, and waits at the doors to come in or go out. She shows patience and controlled eagerness with her training sessions, and loves to learn! Now that she is secure and feels comfortable here, she comes to us for pets, hugs and sometimes a rare kiss. She plays nicely with my younger border collie female. They have games of chase or tug with Kate usually able to initiate the play. When my dog has had enough she will usually back off, but if not, she will “leave it” with firm direction from her foster mom. She LOVES the tennis ball and will “look” for her toys when told and bring them to you for play. She continues to meet new people, with proper introduction she does well with everyone. With continued good leadership and training. The sky is the limit with this girl of what she can do!
