Jonah is a 4 year old bordador (border collie/lab mix) who loves his people.  We don’t know much about his past because he was a stray in a kill shelter in rural Oklahoma.  Nobody ever came for him, and he was scheduled to be euthanized. Fortunately, MoKan was able to get him to safety and boy are we glad.

Jonah loves people and gets along with other dogs, big and small. He mostly loves everything soft. He has scars on his elbows from years of sleeping on concrete, but since the day he arrived, he has sought out every soft place in the house to snuggle. He stretches out in the largest of dog beds, and curls his long body into the smallest. Sleeping upside down is his most practiced skill. His forever home must be able to provide all the soft beds he needs!

Jonah is a gem of a dog who loves walks, car rides and playing outside. He is lower to medium energy and really just wants to be where you are. He’s house and crate trained, doesn’t get into anything he shouldn’t and walks well on a leash. He knows sit, shake, down and wait. We hardly ever hear him bark. He does need a little work on a couple of things.  He’s just the perfect height to rest his chin on the kitchen counter when you’re making dinner.  So don’t leave anything close to the edge (especially peanut butter).  When Jonah was rescued, he was about 15 pounds underweight.  Probably because of this, he snarfs down his meals very quickly, and he tends to be very enthusiastic about taking treats from your hand.  He is very interested in squirrels, and though he has a fenced yard here and can’t chase them, we think he would if given the chance.  He needs some work on getting his attention when he’s distracted… “Squirrel!”.

Jonah would be a wonderful companion to visit nursing homes or schools. He knows no stranger and believes everyone is deserving of his big ole head in their lap. If you get distracted from petting him, he’ll just crawl on up on your lap to remind you of his presence.

Although he hasn’t been around cats with us, he has seen cats at the vet and has not seemed interested in them.  He hasn’t been around young children with us either, though we believe he would be good with respectful children.

Jonah is being fostered in Lee’s Summit MO (Kansas City area).
