When most people say they want a border collie, Amos is the kind of dog they want. This boy is sweet, smart, beautiful, playful, and easy to live with. Amos is 11 months old and about 45 lbs. He is from a group of dogs that were being given away on Craigslist after the breeder died and the family didn’t want the dogs. He was a bit shy and under socialized when he came into foster care but has blossomed rapidly into an amazing dog. It does not take long for Amos to bond to a person and he will make an amazing companion and best friend. Amos gets along with other dogs and cats. He is good to not bother dogs who don’t want to play but enjoys light to medium play with other dogs. He is very submissive. He likes soft squeaky toys, chew toys, stuffed Kongs and more! He is learning to fetch and could possibly take to frisbee. He has a medium energy level and enjoys playing but is also content to hang out on the couch or play on his own. He is crate trained and doing well on housetraining. He does not like to be away from his person so often we go out with him to make sure he actually potties before allowing him freedom in the house. He has done very well and is getting braver about going out on his own. Amos would be a great companion for an active person or family and like most border collies could also pursue dog sports. He is moderately treat and toy motivated and considering how much he has changed in the short time he has been with us, I expect this drive can be increased further. Amos could benefit some a sport like agility or Nosework which can improve his confidence and independence. We believe Amos basically lived in a pen until coming to rescue so while he has adapted quickly to new things he still needs a family that will commit to furthering his knowledge of the world and take him new places and show him new things. He does best with positive re-enforcement, treats and allowing him to figure something out on his own. He can get a bit panicked if forced to do something he’s not sure about but has zero fear aggression. Amos is still startled by sudden noises. He will require a standard above ground fence or leash exercise. Amos is a big puppy and still learning about personal space. He does not mind to run into you or get under foot. For this reason he would not be a good candidate for any home with toddlers or a person who may be a fall risk. We expect a lot of interest in Amos and will be accepting applications until the best fit for him is found. Please be patient while waiting for a response. Amos is being fostered in the Springfield, Mo area.
