It’s time to meet this lovable little fluff of energy, Buddy!
But first, here are a few of Buddy's specific needs:
- Herding breed experienced family. - Fenced yard. - No apartments. - Another friendly dog in the home.
Buddy is an 11-month-old Border Collie mix with a heart as big as Texas and enough energy to climb Mount Everest. He is very cuddly and affectionate and, just as his name implies, instantly wants to be your buddy. He is slowly starting to grasp the concept of personal space, but 6 feet apart is not going to work for him. He is a little goofball with such a fun personality. He likes to chase shadows, try to catch the ceiling fan (no need to be alarmed, he’s unsuccessful every time), and carry various items of clothing into the living room. He also LOVES toys! He can never pick just one toy either, he has to pull half the toys out of the toy box each night to play with. Buddy could play fetch and “keep away” all night, but if you get tired of the games, he has no problem throwing the toy for himself and doing zoomies around the house with it. In addition to loving humans and toys so much, he also loves other dogs!
The best way to describe Buddy’s personality around other dogs is the “annoying younger sibling” many of us grew up with. He wants to be included in everything and do all the things the “big dogs” are doing. This boy could literally play from sunrise to sunset, so a home with active humans, playful dogs, and a yard to burn off energy in would be perfect for him! Don’t worry, he will take an occasional afternoon nap and does sleep at bedtime to revive his energy levels for the next day’s adventures.
Buddy’s attention span is comparable to the dog, “Dug” from the movie, “Up.” He is easily distracted by everything and likes to chase moving objects. He also has a hard time containing his excitement around people, so he tends to jump to ensure everyone knows he is present and wants to be friends. Despite his small stature, this little guy likes to pretend he is a guard dog sometimes and bark at abrupt noises or people walking by. His focus and manners have been improving every day with training, but he would benefit from owners who continue to work with him on these behaviors.
He’s a quick learner and responds well to commands when you have his attention. He knows “sit” and “lay down” and is working on “shake” and “stay.” He is also kennel trained and house trained, but make sure you let him out to go to the bathroom when he tells you because he can’t hold it very long once he decides he has to go. He is a good walker with a gentle leader but can be a little trickster from time to time in his attempts to get it off. He does great for baths and seems to enjoy water.
Do you feel like you are the perfect match to be Buddy’s lifelong buddy? Fill out an application for his adoption!
